Plot Lines

Storytelling is an age-old way for humans to relate and express the human experience. Digital storytelling takes the story from around the campfire to the digital world.

Agenda 

Your Final Project

Work in groups of four, you will produce a 3-5 minute digital story about your topic. 

  1. Discuss Project and Digital Storytelling
  2. Break into groups
  3. Watch some Examples
  4. Topic Choices
    1. There is a new student at school.
    2. You are visiting a foreign land where you do not speak the language
    3. A student is a victim of bullying or cyberbullying.
    4. A foreign exchange students is living in your home for the school year.
    5. There's a misunderstanding between 2 people.
    6. Audition/try-out for a new club/organization: sports, student government, performing arts, etc.
  5. Collaborate with your group to develop your story
  6. Have your story board approved by a camp mentor.
  7. Shoot your story
  8. Use Windows Movie Maker to edit your movie.
  9. Have your final movie approved by a camp mentor.

Consider Your Film Treatment 

How will you approach the story? There are many storytelling traditions to draw on, from fairy tale to science fiction, documentary to fantasy. Here are a few examples.

 

 

Plan and Organize

  • Complete your storyboard

  • Have your camp mentor review your storyboard.  Revise if needed.
  • Gather your props, images, or anything else you need to shoot your story.
  • Find and prepare your "setting"  such as a classroom, an office, or a living room
  • Identify your "extras" for shooting your film


Shoot Your Movie

  • Shoot your scenes
  • Remember- you do not have to shoot your scenes in order

 

Edit with iMovie

  • Download movie clips to computer
  • Create your digital story with iMovie or Movie Maker
  • Add text, captions, or title slides
  • Add music or sound effects
  • Add transitions
  • Have a camp mentor review your movie.  Revise if necessary.
  • Save your final product.
